Back to Bs As
On our last day in Ushuaia, I went to the museum now in the old prison. The first inhabitants were convicts used to populate the area. There were a few big ships in port, on their way to or from Antarctica. The weather has turned cool and rainy, but we really lucked out for the weather when we needed it!
3 1/2 hours later by air, we are back in Buenos Aires and sticky heat. We missed 17 strikes blocking major arteries in the city the day before. It’s almost time to go back to work for the fall, and everyone wants a big increase to their wages.
So, steak and Malbec wine again for a final dinner, then a few of us went to a milonga, or tango club, for locals. These things go really late, since dinner isn’t done until at least 9 or 10. What an atmosphere and what a dance!
And a glass of wine was 15 pesos, or about $1.50. Fortunately we were not asked to dance, or it could have been embarrassing. If I had one more night here I would come back for the lessons!
And on the last day, I went leather shopping, and changed money on the street to get a much better rate (men and women all down the shopping street shout “cambio” (change) and I got 11 pesos to $1, rather than 8 at the bank). And the usual 24 hours or so home, returning to the usual 40 below zero!
