Bogota
I had an evening flight to Toronto where I overnighted, then a stop in Curaçao. It’s an island just off the coast of Venezuela. I got out of the airport to check it out, and discovered that it’s a Dutch colony, and home of the blue liqueur of course.
Another couple of hours to Bogota. I knew that as a Canadian I had to pay a reciprocity fee of about $70, but I had no idea that it’s only us! The immigration people were apologetic, two of them asked me if I had another passport (I wish I had dual nationality!) Signs say it’s required by the Canadian government. After the extra time I spent in customs I found I had no luggage. I could have carried on but really, a four hour layover and my luggage didn’t arrive.
I was approached by a taxi guy inside the airport but opted for the legal lineup outside. The taxi ride took me through some dodgy areas, in the dark, with motorcycles driving beside me the way they did drive-by shootings in the drug wars. I’m not gonna lie, I was a little rattled on arrival at my hotel. Maybe I shouldn’t have binge-watched Narcos right before my trip.

What? No luggage? What happened to your luggage? Hope it arrived shortly after! And that’s very odd about the fee. No wonder you were rattled. How are things going now?

Hi Cheri! I got my luggage the next evening so it wasn’t too bad. It’s going great, my tour leader used to be a salsa instructor so I’ve been dragging him out dancing. I love this place, I don’t want to close my eyes! Hopefully can update soon.
